"We conserve what we love...
      We love what we understand...
We understand what we are taught"

Ocean Adventure! offers fun and informative programs on Maine's ocean and commercial fishing heritage. All programs are tailored to the age group involved and last 45 to 75 minutes, depending on subject and level of audience participation. These are programs with a strong educational focus, not just show and tell. We make the audience think!

The usual scenario is five 60-minute or four 75-minute programs per day. Our offerings are:
  • preceded by vocabulary lists, program outlines and in-class activities
  • not just science but also history and economics
  • related to businesses and features in your town
  • designed to encourage pride in your town and state
  • tied to Maine's Learning Results standards

Ocean Adventure! programs are intensive, hands-on presentations by Phil Averill. They do not use slides or videos though most topics have videos that complement the subject matter and are available for use before or after the program.

Many schools opt for our live animal aquarium display tank which we set up in a hallway for all students to see (not touch). This allows the older students who usually get the more intensive programs to enjoy the live animals while the younger set gets the actual touch tank program. There is a $60 fee for the display tank.
